Critics have praised Germany-based Chinese Soprano XÏA Wang as "hochkultivierter Sopran…".
As the winner of the 3rd International Opera and Zarzuela Competition in San Sebastián, XÏA Wang appeared in the 2024/25 season as both Pamina and Papagena at the Theater Erfurt (Poetry Concert - Die Zauberflöte); Opera and Operetta concert with Thüringer Symphoniker; Advent Calendar Concert and A Tribute to Bellini concert at Deutsche Oper Berlin. The season concluded with Carmina Burana in Prague and a performance at the MIK Festival in Albania.
XÏA Wang opens the 2025/26 season with her house and role debut at Oper Wuppertal as Berta in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia. She will then appear as Henrietta Wong in Harvey Milk Reimagined at Theater für Niedersachsen. In addition to her operatic roles, Wang will perform Bellini Concert at Palais Lichtenau in Potsdam as well as several international concert engagements.
Her engagements in opera and concert include Adele in Die Fledermaus; Najade in Ariadne auf Naxos; Norina in Don Pasquale; Suor Genovieffa in Suor Angelica; Gretel in Hänsel und Gretel; Belinda in Dido and Aeneas; and Olympia in Les contes d'Hoffmann. Other roles include Le Feu in L'enfant et les sortilèges, Fiakermilli in Arabella, Yniold in Pelléas et Mélisande, Nannetta in Falstaff, Sophie in Werther, Oscar in Un Ballo in Maschera; Despina in Così fan tutte, Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Ilia in Idomeneo.
Her former performances also include Handel Dixit Dominus (Philadelphia Performing Arts Center/Temple University Orchestra) with; Donnacha Dennehy That the Night Come with Temple Contemporary Ensemble (Rock Hall, Philadelphia); Tippett’s A Child of Our Time (Kimmel Center Verizon Hall, Philadelphia); Gala recital (Steinway Hall, Dubai); Sinfoniekonzert (Theater Nordhausen/Loh-Orchester Sondershausen); Klangzauber unterm Sternenzelt (Thüringer Symphoniker).
She is currently studying for the Konzertexamen at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar . She completed her earlier studies in New York at the Mannes School of Music, where she studied with the legendary soprano Diana Soviero and received a president scholarship.
