Biography

As a “highly cultivated soprano” praised by music critics, Berlin-based Chinese soprano XÏA Wang enters the 2026/27 season with several notable engagements. At Theater Erfurt, as part of the DomStufen-Festspiele, she will perform Tingeli in Der Bärbeiß and cover Sunny in the contemporary opera Lucidity. At Theater für Niedersachsen, she will appear as Griselda in Cinderella. She will also take on the title role of Poppea in L’incoronazione di Poppea, a co-production with Opera Box Hong Kong. As a selected young artist of Opera for Peace, she will perform in Lugano with the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana under the musical direction of Kamal Khan, and present a concert of works by R. Strauss at Schloss Wernstein.

During the 2025/26 season, XÏA Wang appeared as Berta in Il barbiere di Siviglia at Oper Wuppertal, Zerlina in Don Giovanni (Slam Concert) at Theater Erfurt, and Konstanze in Die Entführung aus dem Serail with Junges Musiktheater Weimar. She also performed Henrietta Wong in the contemporary opera Harvey Milk Reimagined at Theater für Niedersachsen. In summer 2025, she made her debut as Tingeli at the DomStufen-Festspiele in Erfurt. Her concert engagements included Bellini programmes and performances with the Brandenburgisches Staatsorchester Frankfurt.

In the 2024/25 season, she sang Pamina and Papagena in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte at Theater Erfurt and performed in concerts with the Thüringer Symphoniker. She also appeared at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, followed by performances of Orff’s Carmina Burana in Prague and at the MIK Festival in Albania.

Her previous operatic and concert experience includes Adele (Die Fledermaus), Najade (Ariadne auf Naxos), Norina (Don Pasquale), Suor Genovieffa (Suor Angelica), Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), and Belinda (Dido and Aeneas). Her concert repertoire includes Tippett’s A Child of Our Time (Kimmel Center, Verizon Hall, Philadelphia), a Gala Recital at Steinway Hall Dubai, Handel’s Dixit Dominus (Philadelphia Performing Arts Center), Donnacha Dennehy’s That the Night Come with the Temple Contemporary Ensemble, and a symphonic concert at Theater Nordhausen.

XÏA was a participant in the Exzellenzlabor Oper2025. She began her studies in New York City at the Mannes School of Music, where she studied with renowned soprano Diana Soviero. She subsequently continued her studies in the Konzertexamen program at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar.
