Biography

Praised as a “hochkultivierter Sopran,” Berlin-based Chinese soprano XÏA Wang opened the 2025/26 season with her house and role debut at Oper Wuppertal as Berta in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia. In February, she appeared as Zerlina in Mozart’sDon Giovanni(Slam Concert) at Theater Erfurt. In March, she made her debut as Konstanze in Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem Serailwith the Junges Musiktheater Weimar. In May, she will perform as Henrietta Wong inHarvey Milk Reimagined at Theater für Niedersachsen. This summer, she will also appear as Frau Graureiher inDer Bärbeißat the DomStufen-Festspiele in Erfurt. In addition to her operatic engagements, she has presented a series of Bellini concerts at Palais Lichtenau, Potsdam, and Schloss Wernstein, and will also take part in Opera Gala concerts with the Brandenburgisches Staatsorchester Frankfurt this summer.

In the 2024/25 season, XÏA performed both Pamina and Papagena in Mozart’sDie Zauberflöte (Poetry Concert) at Theater Erfurt, as well as in opera and operetta concerts with the Thüringer Symphoniker. She also appeared in the Advent Calendar Concert and A Tribute to Bellini concert at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. The season concluded with performances of Orff’s Carmina Burana in Prague and the opening concert at the MIK Festival in Albania.

Wang’s previous operatic and concert engagements include Adele (Die Fledermaus), Najade (Ariadne auf Naxos), Norina (Don Pasquale), Suor Genovieffa (Suor Angelica), Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), and Belinda (Dido and Aeneas). Her potential repertoire includes Olympia (Les contes d’Hoffmann), Le Feu (L’enfant et les sortilèges), Fiakermilli (Arabella), Yniold (Pelléas et Mélisande), Nannetta (Falstaff), Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier), Sophie (Werther), Oscar (Un ballo in maschera), Despina (Così fan tutte), Gilda (Rigoletto) and Lucia (Lucia di Lammermoor).

Her concert repertoire includes Tippett’s A Child of Our Time (Kimmel Center, Verizon Hall, Philadelphia), Gala Recital (Steinway Hall, Dubai), Handel’s Dixit Dominus (Philadelphia Performing Arts Center / Temple University Orchestra), Donnacha Dennehy’s That the Night Come with the Temple Contemporary Ensemble (Rock Hall, Philadelphia), Sinfoniekonzert (Theater Nordhausen / Loh-Orchester Sondershausen), andKlangzauber unterm Sternenzelt (Thüringer Symphoniker).

XÏA will be the young artist for Opera for Peace 2026, Lugano. She was a participant of Exzellenz Labor Oper 2025, a graduate of Mannes School of Music. And currently she is pursuing a Konzertexamen at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar.
